Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti celeb-rated its foundation day as Writers' Day at Dev Literature Centre, DM College.
Literature of the Year Award 2014 (Lifetime Achievement Award) was conferred on Aribam Chitreshwar Sharma at the function.
The award included a citation, a shawl and cash prize.
Chitreshwar Sharma is a renowned novelist, short-story writer and biographer.
He also takes keen interest in painting and sculpture apart from writing.
Some of his best acclaimed novels include Leibaklei (1968), Tharosangbi (1991) and Apaiba Leichil (2012) .
His list of short stories include Bharada (1972) and Lupkhraba Hinao (1987) .
Sahitya Akademi awardee Khumanthem Prakash and Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti president Prof P Nabachandra attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Award winner Chitreshwar Sharma said that the day was so special for him as it coincided with his birthday.
He said, "the only way to reach heaven in life is to receive public appreciation and reception." While speaking at the function, Prof Ch Jashobanta expressed concern over prevailing unfair competition among artists.
Prof P Nabachandra mentioned about the need for exchanging co-operation among artists.
Prof Ch Jasobanta of MU's Linguistic Department spoke on the topic, 'Manipuri Language and India's classical language' at the function.
