Kpi mourns loss of its environmental activist

Thousands followed the pushcart carrying the mortal remains of Nehkholam Kipgen, a lover of environment, cleanliness and a volunteer of community service, to finally put him to rest at Kangpokpi cemetery today.
The 74 years old Nehkholam Kipgen, who saw more clearly than anyone else in the town about the essence of hygiene had hugely contribute in the beautification of Kangpokpi DHQs for the past many years by vastly promoting cleanliness, environment and community service all alone.
Born in 14 October, 1944 at Chaljang village, Nehkholam Kipgen, twice recipient of District Administration Kangpokpi District award in social service (Beautification of Kangpokpi) on Republic Day Celebration 2008 and Independence Day Celebration, 2016 and other appreciation award, expired yesterday evening owing to a prolonged illness.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, daughter in-laws, and grandchildren.
He served in the Postal Department from 1973 and retired on superannuation in 2014.He also served as the first Men's Society Chairman in Tujang Waichong Church from 1889 to 1990, apart from serving as Assistant Secretary and Treasurer in KBC Centre Church, Kangpokpi.
Most of the trees along NH-2 within Kangpokpi Bazar, in and around M Thomas Ground, along the road which leads to DC Office, Kangpokpi via 38 Assam Rifles Post route and District Hospital route and other localities were voluntarily planted by him.
He also made important signboards of various department offices and erected in every junction of the road from his own pocket money.
He often engaged in mending potholes along the highway and cleaned the route to DC office every morning.
The first SP of Kangpokpi, Heisnam Balram Singh motivated the aged Nehkholam Kipgen with a cash of Rs 10,000 when the Balram was posted at Kangpokpi District as the first SP, which the deceased used for buying paints brush and other raw materials for making signboards and for his medical treatment.
Thousands including various CSOs, local body leaders including KTC, KWWO, KYU congregated at the residence of the deceased during the funeral ceremony in Kangpokpi Ward 11.His last rite was performed by Pastor Khuptinlal Hangshing of KBC Centre Kangpokpi as Burial Minister at Kangpokpi Cemetery in the presence of Pastor J Lunkim, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship after the condolence at the deceased residence.
Kangpokpi Youth Union is likely to declare March 17 as Kanggui Cleanliness Day to commemorate the good works of Late Nehkholam Kipgen so as to sustain his exemplary work in the town and among the denizens of Kangpokpi.
