'The Gaan-Ngai' released

A book titled 'The Gaan-Ngai' was released today at Chingmeirong Kabui Khul.
The book releasing function was organised by the State Level Gaan-Ngai Celebration Committee, Manipur.
At the function, Professor N Joykumar of History Department, Manipur University underscored the importance of maintaining the cultural elements of Manipur black and white, saying that the identity of a community or individual is defined by their culture.
"Following traditional practise and wearing traditional dress at a religious event is of utmost importance as no amount of gold or money can bring back our culture and identity if lost," he added.
Saying that he saw certain women wearing sarees in Meitei religious events, the Prof expressed apprehension that the Meitei culture will be altered if such practise continues.
Gaan-Ngai is a big religious festival for Kabui, said Joykumar and appealed to the people belonging to the Kabui community to observe the festival in its truest form to preserve their culture.
The book releasing function was also attended by BJP, Manipur Pradesh president Professor S Tiken and Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak Phom - Assam, Manipur, Nagaland general secretary Chaoba Kamson among others.
