Workshop on library resources

A three-day workshop on 'Access to Library Resources and internet' got underway from today at the Manipur university Library conference hall.
As chief guest of the inauguration programme, Director General National Library (Kolkata) Dr PY Rajendra Kumar noted that the present generation are fortunate to have internet facility as information on any subject could be accessed within seconds at the click of a mouse.
Stating that computer education has become mandatory to enhance one's knowledge, he suggested that technological advancement needs to be used purposefully to widen the horizon of learning.
Dr Rajendra also informed that National Library will provide all possible assistance for sustaining the library movement in Manipur.
Delivering the presidential address, Dean of School of Life Sciences (MU) Prof N Irabanta said with the advent of computer and internet facility library revolution has become a global phenomenon and such innovative technological development should be capitalised by library enthusiasts.
Librarian (MU) Dr Th Khomdon Singh, who is the workshop co-ordinator, informing that internet facility is already available in MU Library also pointed out that among the North Eastern States Manipur has the highest number of library book readers.
national Library PLIO Dr R Ramachandran as key note speaker of the inaugural session opined that through the internet one can access wide range of information in a more convenient and swift manner.
GK Khandari, who is the national Library's ALIO, in her address as the guest of honour also assured the Kolkata institution's assistance in further infrastructure development of MU Library.
National Library's Administrative Officer narahari Sardar was the other guest of honour of the inaugural session of the workshop being organised by MU Library under the aegis of National Library.
