World Food Day observed

As observed across the globe, World Food Day was observed by the Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of India in collaboration with NCUI-Women Co-operative Education Project, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India, Lamphelpat at Kongrailakpam Kulakeshor's Mandop, Khurai Konsam Leikai today.
The programme was organised under the theme "Social protection and agriculture: Breaking the cycle of rural poverty" .
Speaking at the programme, Leimaram Indu Devi, Pradhan, Khurai Konsam Leikai Gram Panchayat spoke on the need to consume nutritious food.
Expecting mothers play a very important role in determining the health of a new born baby.
Consuming nutritious food during pregnancy and lactating period can provide nourishment to the baby.
Mothers should ensure healthy and nutritious foods are given to children in order to prevent malnutrition, Indu Devi added.
The programme was also attended by Jina Potsangbam, Chairperson, NCUI-Project Co-ordination Committee, Manipur.
In the meantime, the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), Manipur Chapter also observed the World Food day under the theme "Social Protection and Agriculture" at the food processing hall of the Directorate of Commerce and Industries, Govt of Manipur, Porompat today.
During the function, Prof M Dhaneswor Singh, HOD, Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba emphasised on the importance of food and its nutritive values.
