Rev Khaigin Gangte, BD, translator of Holy Bible in Gangte, and the longest serving executive secretary of Evangelical Synod Church (ESC) passed away yesterday at his Churachandpur's B Aijalon residence due to multiple organ failure.
He was 78 .
His mortal remains were laid to rest today.
Rev Khaigin Gangte was born on October 15, 1943 .
He joined Mission service as assistant teacher in Pangen Mission English School in 1967 .
He completed his Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree from UBS, Yavatmal in 1983 .
He was ordained as a Pastor a couple of years later.
He became the executive secretary of ESC in 1985 and served in that capacity till Dec 2005 .
He translated the Holy Bible in Gangte in 1991 .
He also authored several books in Gangte apart from writing many Gospel articles and editing 'Chamna Aw,' a periodical (in-house organ/publication) of ESC.
He is survived by his wife Kimkhotai, four sons, two daughters and 13 grandchildren.
The Gangte Literature Society (GLS), Manipur has condoled the demise of Rev Khaigin Gangte while terming it a great loss for the Gangte tribe in particular and the Christian community in general.
The GLS remembered him as a humble, affable man who was down to earth.
His contributions towards the promotion/enrichment and preservation of Gangte literature will be cherished in days to come.
Saying that the void created by his demise will be hard to fill, the GLS extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
