Imphal, June 16 2017:
There is no way of reviewing the unanimous resolution adopted by the 3rd Naga People's Convention of 2010 to sever political ties with Government of Manipur based on Naga National Movement.
This was reaffirmed by a key campaigner of alternative arrangement while talking to The Sangai Express.
.The convention was organised by United Naga Council (UNC) on July 1, 2010 .
He said that the resolution was taken against the State Government's inaction in bringing development in the hill districts and deprivation of rights of Nagas.
The key campaigner, who talked on condition of anonymity hailed the initiatives taken up for the hill districts by the new State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren but added that the resolution passed by the 2010 convention is still intact .
He pointed out that the resolution came following the Government's failure to pay heed to the demand for Naga integration and implementation of Sixth Schedule.
Maintaining that Nagas have been demanding alternative arrangement outside Government of Manipur pending settlement of Indo-Naga issue, he said that the resolution may be reviewed if an amicable settlement is brought to the Indo-Naga issue.
Meanwhile, sources said some Naga leaders have expressed desire to review the strong resolution taken in the 2010 convention.
Chief Minister N Biren in his recent visit to Ukhrul was accorded a warm welcome by a massive crowd from the district.
During his visit, the CM announced a slew of developmental programmes for the district.
Reaching out to the hill people, the CM also took part in Barak Festival held recently in Senapati wherein he announced various developmental works to be taken up in the district.
The Naga leaders opined that there is an apparent need to revisit the stand of the UNC on the creation of seven new districts in the State.
Given the present situation, the Naga leaders may rake up the issue and discuss it in a political forum for Nagas, the sources said.
