"Army Day" observed at Tamenglong

Tamenglong, January 15 2022:
As celebrated across the country, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 22 Sector AR/ IGAR(East) observed Army Day at District Headquarters, Tamenglong.
Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa's (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Fransis Bucher , the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on January 15, 1949, said a release issued by PIB Defence Wing.
During the programme, a befitting wreath laying ceremony was conducted to honor the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country.
Veterans and Veer Naris from Tamenglong joined the Commandant and all ranks in the celebrations to pay tribute to the valiant heroes of Indian Army.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commandant of 44 Assam Rifles extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the people on the auspicious & joyous occasion of Gann Ngai festival.
He also called upon all citizens for constructive contribution towards nation building.
Maj G Kamei (retd), senior most Veteran from the town along with secretary of ESM cut the cake and reciprocated the best wishes on behalf of the veterans.
A stall on local crafts, depicting the rich heritage of the area was also displayed for the veterans along with an information stall.
Later, an interactive session with the veterans was conducted to address their grievances.
Songs and band displays filled the environment with patriotic fervour.
The stellar performance of the troops during the cultural programme established a deep cultural connect among the citizens.
The event epitomized the concept of "Unity in Diversity" and "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" .
