Imphal, December 14 2020:
Vice president ofManipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Moirangthem Hemanta has categorically stated that depletion in the number of OPD patients seeking treatments at hospitals during the Covid pandemic is a clear indication of health crisis hitting the State.
Briefing media persons at Congress Bhawan today, Hemanta continued that at least 1,000 people sought OPD treatments at RIMS Hospital, Imphal in the pre-Covid period and this huge decline in people seeking treatments at hospitals is a matter of concern.
He also questioned why the Government stopped its flagship programme "Go to Village" and not organise medical camps at a time people from rural areas seek health care services at their doorsteps the most.
Speaking about the issuance of a recruitment notice for various departments, the senior Congress leader expressed disappointment with the Government for still maintaining silence regarding the resolution taken during a Cabinet meeting to recruit 300 doctors and 106 staff nurses.
Priority should be given to recruiting medical practitioners at this difficult time, he opined.
Hemanta further stated that Chief Minister N Biren Singh should consider handing over the portfolio of Health to a suitable MLA as he is already busy with other schedules to deal with this pandemic effectively.
Meeyamgi Numit, a programme where people of Manipur highlight their grievances to the Chief Minister directly also stopped when it is needed the most, said the Congress leader and appealed to continue Meeyamgi Numit by conforming to COVID safety measures.
