Imphal, July 14 2014:
Complaining against the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (30 of 2013) with reference to the Revenue Secretary's notification of June 16, 2014 published in the Manipur Gazette, Kuki Students Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) has categorically stated the proposed Act and its draft is in contravention with the Kuki traditional and cultural set up.
As such, KSO-GHQ has requested the Revenue Secretary to formally register this complaint in public interests.
According to KSO-GHQ, in tabling the proposed Act, the Government is harping on forced acquisition of land in the guise of giving the people the right to fair compensation.
So the proposed Act is in toto not acceptable to the Kuki people and the land owners, it added.
"As we have resolved not to entertain or consider this Act, the organisation appeals to the Government to abrogate the proposed Act at the earliest.
The government cannot pass antagonistic Acts at their whim and fancy.
If the proposed Act is not recalled as per our demand, a civil unrest against the said Act is imminent," it cautioned.
