Drugs worth Rs 1 Cr seized

Imphal, December 13 2019: Imphal East district police arrested a 23 year old youth along with W/Y tablets worth more than Rs 1 crore, from Khabeisoi area under Heingang PS today afternoon.

Parading the arrested individual along with the seized W/Y tablets before media persons at SP Imphal East conference hall, Haobijam Jogeshchandra (Imphal East SP) conveyed that a team of Imphal East commando conducted mobile frisking and checking at certain areas of Imphal East district today and during one such check, they inspected a Tata truck coming from Khurai Lamlong side at Khabeisoi area.

Spotting the nervous behaviour of the truck driver, the commando team conducted a thorough check of the truck and found a plastic bag concealed inside a spare tyre of the truck, containing 182 packets of W/Y tablets (200 pieces per packet or a total 36,400 W/Y tablets).

The SP continued that the driver was identified as one Thoubalmayum Shahaduddin (23) s/o Janeruddin of Hayel Labuk Awang Leikai and on interrogation, he revealed that seized W/Y tablets were handed over to him by one Md Najimuddin (36) s/o (L) Md Abdul Haque of Hayel Labuk Maning Leikai at around 4.10 am today at Hayel Labuk Awang Leikai.

He further revealed that the tablets were to be transported to Silchar, Assam and he was to be paid Rs 30,000 as fare, the SP explained adding that Shahaduddin was arrested from the spot at around 2.30 pm and the Tata truck along with the drugs were seized as well.

Effort is on to arrest others involved in the case and the arrested person, along with the seized items, will be handed over to Heingang PS for taking up necessary action under ND&PS Act, the SP informed.
