Imphal, December 13, 2012:
The 3rd Death Anniversary of Oja Sanajaoba Naoriya was observed today under the auspices of Oja Sanajaoba Me morial Trust at the memorial complex of the late scholar located at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai.
Delivering the Presidential speech of the observance, Lokendro Arambam, former Director, AVRC, Manipur University, categorically asserted that India Government is following certain hidden agendas to disintegrate the North Eastern States as it is apprehensive that if all the ethnic groups in the region come together; it would be very hard to keep the North East under its iron hand.
He pointed out that during the Indo-China war; the India government never used aircrafts to attack the Chinese forces.
However, just to keep the activities of underground groups in Mizoram under control; it resorted to the use of aircrafts and bombarded many areas in Mizoram.
As a result, a number of Mizos came to take refuge in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
On the other hand, a number of Kuki refugees who came as foreigners have started demanding Kuki homeland in Manipur today.
He alleged that India government has been taking undue advantages of the prevailing situation in the region and following certain strategies to create misunderstanding and distrust among the different communities living in the region.
For instance, he cited, India Government supports the Naga issue and keep aside the issues of other communities, thereby fomenting the sentiments of other communities.
With such strategies, the movements launched by different organizations are made to fall apart, he maintained.
In such a situation where one ethnic group is set against the other, a common route for all the ethnic groups would have been chalked out had Oja Sanajaoba Naoriya be amongst us today, Lokendra Arambam added.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the observance, Prof Gangmumei Kamei stated that Oja Sanajaoba Naoriya could be called a 'perfect institute' considering the wide knowledge he had gained and the number of valuable books he had written during his life time.
Oja Sanajaoba was able to show the right path to the people through his writings.
The function was also attended by Prof Nahakpam Aruna of Manipuri Department, Manipur University; Prof Laldena of History Department, Manipur University; A Mobi, President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMJU) and S Somorjit, Pradhan of Lairikyengbam Leikai Gram Panchayat as Guests of Honour.
