73rd Nupi Lan Day Observed Fittingly, Stop Atrocities Against Women, Repeal AFSPA Slogans Raised

The Nupi Lan Day was observed today at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband under the aegis of Observation Committee of Dec 12 .
President of Irabot Foundation Th Iboyaima graced the occasion as the chief guest while the presidium members were Secretary of Nupi Samaj, Thokchom Ramani; President of Poirei Leimarol, T Longjam Memchoubi; President of MIKHOL, Akoijam Janaki; President of CHITUWA Maibam Purnimashi and president of KIL RK Sanahanbi.
Social activist Dhanbir Laishram; editor of Freedom, RK Ranendrajit and Ibotombi Khumancha, adviser of IPSA spoke as the resource persons.
Nupi Lan Day was also observed by the All Manipur Nupi Marup with the slogans 'Stop atrocities against women,' 'Root out corruption,' and 'Repeal AFSPA,' today.
The observance programme began by offering floral tribute to the souls lost during the course of Nupi Lan 1939 at Krishnadas Pal's residence located at Keishamthong, where the Nupi Lan was said to be first observed in 1946 .

A torch was lit at Krishnadas Pal residence and carried till GM Hall where an observance programme was held.
En route to GM Hall, a public rally was also taken out around the torch from Uripok Chakrikom till the venue of the programme.
The programme was graced by Principal of TG Hr Sec School, T Pramodini Devi; ex-Minister N Mangi; and President of AMNM S Sorojini as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
The Day was also observed at JIMPAL Office in Jiribam under the aegis of Organising Committee of Nupi Lan Day.
L Sorojini, president of All Jiri Keithel Chaokhat Thourang Ema Marup; K Subhashni Devi, Adviser of JIMPAL; H Mema Devi, President of JIMPAL; S Susila, president of AJMP and N Nivarani Devi as the chief guest, special guest and presidium members respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, President of AMUCO KT Rahman lauded the contributions of contemporary Manipuri women in issues relating to the State.
He also urged the women to join hands in future to confront any challenge for the betterment and welfare of the State.
Meanwhile, the organising committee has also organised a running race for women to mark the occasion.
72 women took part in the race that started from Chandrapur till JIMPAL office gate.
Chanuleima of Kamranga was declared the winner of the race in the below 50 category while Chandratombi of Mongbung was adjudged the winner in the above 50 category.

The observance programme was also held at Hojai in neighbouring Assam under the aegis of United Manipuri Women's Council, Assam.
In Thoubal district, the day's programme was observed at BASU Ground, Khangabok under the aegis of People United Service Institute, Khangabok.
Thoubal DC T Ranjit Singh and Adhyaksha of Thoubal ZP Kh (O) Surnalata Devi attended the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
W Joymati Devi, former chairperson of MSWC; Kh Rajmohon Singh, pradhan of Khangabok Part-I GP and N Aruna Devi, pradhan of Khangabok Part-III were the guests of honour.
