SDCC conducts checking of expired goods; warns of legal action against defaulters

Senapati, September 12 2024:
As a corrective measure, the Senapati District Consumers Club (SDCC), Manipur along with the Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) and district Civil Society Organizations including the Naga People's Organization, Senapati District Students Association, Senapati District Women's Association and district Police conducted a surprise checking of expired goods that were sold within the district headquarters, Senapati which are posing threats to lives and safety of the public.
Large quantities of expired grocery, juice, edibles and medical items were seized during the drive.
Addressing media persons, Lokho Ozho, general secretary, SDCC Manipur stated that with many complaints received from different quarters about massive transaction of expiry goods as well as the use of faulty measurement scales by the butchers in town, the district consumers club along with the KSTC and other CSO leaders conducted the drive.
During the drive, many expired groceries and edibles were seized by the team.
Moreover, faulty measurement scales were also seized as some butchers found using poor and manipulated standard measurement of weights while some others were found using stones for measurement.
The seized items were placed under the custody of KSTC for necessary action.
SDCC Manipur has cautioned that the Club will take up such drives in the town from time to time and warned of necessary legal action against the defaulters.
Meanwhile, D Maryna, president of SDCC Manipur strongly condemned the malpractice perpetrated by the businessmen which were discovered in today's drive.
Despite repeated warnings in the past, they have been found violating the rules again, she said.
