Jiribam, August 12 2019:
Women vendors have started selling vegetables and other items after they got their respective space at Jiri Ema Keithel through a draw of lottery organized by Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC) today.
It may be mentioned that the said market shed was inaugurated by CM N Biren Singh during his visit in Jiribam on September 19 last year.
204 seats were allocated to the women vendors in a sim- ple function held today at Jiri Ema Keithel in the presence of K Saratkumar Singh, vice-Chairman, Food & Industry Co-op Ltd; Sagapam Shanti Devi, Chairperson, JMC and S Wangoisana, vice-Chairperson, JMC after offering prayers to Keithel Lairembi Ema.
At the occasion, K Saratkumar Singh said that the Jiri Ema Keithel was constructed under the initiative of CM N Biren Singh with his vision of constructing Ema Keithel in each district of the State and personally visited Jiribam last year to inaugurate the market shed for the public.
However, the allocation of seat to women vendors got delayed due to incomplete toilet complex and other infrastructure, but all the construction work were completed this month after the CM instructed to expedite the work and to allocate the seat to the women vendors at the earliest.
He also said that Ema Keithel has its own uniqueness as there is no such market in India exclusively for women.
Women vendor S Santirani Devi expressed happiness with the inauguration the Jiri Ema Keithel and at getting a slot in the market after the women vendors of Jiribam went through a lot of struggle in the absence of Ema Keithel earlier which was doubled during the construction of Jiri Ema Keithel.
