Lamka, May 12 2012:
Newly elected members of the State Assembly from the Zomi community were today felicitated by Zomi Council at its administrative office here wherein a threadbare discussion on the community's political aspiration was held as well.
The three legislatures, including a minister have attended the programme that also witnessed several tribe leaders from the community and several members of the district council.
Delivering a keynote address, ZC Chairman LB Sona asserted that the council's initial demand for autonomous tribal state entailing all the hill districts of Manipur has been amended as Autonomous Hill State under the same Constitutional provision following the UPF adoption of the later as its demand before the Government.
The Autonomous Hill State under 244A of the Indian Constitution is now not just the demand of the council but of the armed groups and communities under the SoO pact, the United Peoples Front, he said.
The elected members who attended the programme have also assured the gathering that they would not hesitate to take initiatives to realise the political aspirations so long as the people who have elected them wish so.
