Imphal, February 12 2021:
Plans to develop Indian National Army (INA) memorial at Moirang to attract more tourists should be tabled and passed at the ongoing session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Veteran politician Okram Joy said this at a press conference held today at his residence in Kakwa and said the memorial complex at Moirang is a very historic place which cannot be left out whenever the topic of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose comes up.
The Indian Tricolor was raised at Moirang on April 14, 1944 and the headquarter of 'Provisional Government of Free India' was set up there, he added.
The role played by Manipuris during that time has been always downplayed and they have not been given due recognition in the history books which is really unfortunate, Okram Joy added.
He added that the country is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with a year long celebration programme and it is the right time for the State Government to take decision for the development of the INA memorial at Moirang to attract more tourist and preserve this important historical site.
