Thoubal, January 12 2025:
The indefinite general strike called by Shop Owners Welfare Association against "rampant" and "unbearable" monetary demands levied on them by various organisations begins from 5 am today in Yairipok Bazar.
The general strike cripples normal life especially at Yairipok bazar.
All shops of Tampha keithel and New Market of Yairipok remain shut during the general strike.
General strike supporters blocked roads leading to Thoubal, Kasom Khullen, Yairipok Nongpok Sekmai and Yairipok Ngarian road at Yairipok bazar.
Speaking at the sidelines, Kh Surat, secretary of Shop Owners Welfare Association stated that the shopkeepers of Yairipok bazar have been doing whatever they can and extending all sorts of support to those in the frontline since the beginning of the conflict in May 3, 2023, and will even continue to support in the future.
He continued that the general strike was not called to challenge any organisations but in condemnation against the frequent exhorbitant monetary demands levied on them.
He further appeals to the organisations to stop demanding exorbitant money to the shopkeepers, since many are suffering financially due to the ongoing crisis in the State.
