Imphal, June 11 2012:
The RIMS Nursing College, which was set up in 2009 has been remaining in a state of limbo on account of undue interference from incompetent persons in its functioning, S Sekharjit, Director of RIMS has asserted.
Talking to media persons in his office chamber today, Director Sekharjit said that during the initial stages of functioning of RIMS Nursing College, some of the staff Nurses of RIMS, who were post graduates, were recruited as teachers on a stop gap arrangement.
However, due to some technical problems, the same teachers, who were supposed to fill the gap until recruitment of qualified teachers, were given appointment orders.
So, when the process for recruitment of qualified teachers was started, the earlier appointed teachers, who are also not qualified, started creating problems.
Pointing out that the essential qualification of a teacher to work in a Nursing College is M Sc with enough teaching experience in accordance to the norms of Manipur University as well as Indian Nursing Council, the Director maintained that despite knowing this well the staff Nurses, who were appointed as teachers on contract basis, have been taking undue advantages of the mistake committed by RIMS authority and filed a case in the court.
He further pointed out that since the students of the Nursing College are being taught by inexperience and unqualified teachers, 40 students could not appear in the first year exam.
Accordingly, 9 tutors and 5 Lecturers have been recruited.
But still the earlier appointed teachers refuse to leave and join their earlier job as staff nurse.
Nonetheless, among the 48 staffs who filed cases in the court, the cases of 40 of them have been ruled in favour of RIMS and presently only 8 cases are pending in the court.
S Sekharjit categorically stated that the move taken up by the staff nurses would not bear fruit since all of them are not qualified for the post.
The RIMS authority has taken up all measures to recruit all the required qualified Lecturers and Tutors, he added.
