CAB: Amid NESO's total shut down, many celebrate ILP promise

Amid the 15 hours total shutdown imposed by North-East Students' Organisation and All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, many BJP supporters in districts took out rallies celebrating the possible extension of the ILP (Inner Line Permit) system in the State.
However, the shutdown affected normal life across the districts with bazars remaining closed and transport services coming to complete halt in most places.
Thoubal: In Thoubal district, all bazars remained closed and police personnel were on alert to maintain law and order.
Except private vehicles, there were no public transport services.
At Wangjing-Tentha Constituency, MLA Paonam Brojen and BJP supporters took out a vehicle rally and celebrated the Centre's promise to extend the ILP system in the State.
The supporters raised slogans praising PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Biren.
The rally covered places in the Constituency.
MLA Paonam Brojen said that the rally was to celebrate the promise made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Parliament to exclude Manipur from the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by extending the ILP system.
Stating that the extension of the ILP system would be historic, he said that the Centre has reaffirmed its commitment and love for Manipur.
The rally started from the MLA's house at Wangjing Wangkhei and concluded at BJP Khongjom Mandal office.
Many also celebrated the possible extension of ILP system organising and taking part in Thabal Chongba at places.
Tengnoupal: All Manipur Students' Union Tengnoupal District Committee with the support of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup and Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup (Ima Lup), enforced the shutdown at Moreh.
AMSU volunteers and womenfolk blocked roads in the border town.
Moreh bazar remained closed.
Jiribam: Jiribam BJP Mandal organised a massive torch rally in the district celebrating the possible extension of the ILP system in the State.
The rally started from Foreigners Check Post and concluded at Jiribam Police Station.
Jiribam BJP Mandal member E Dipti Kumar and State councillor BJP, Manipur Pradesh M Bina Devi and other workers took part in the rally.
Similar procession was held at Sorok Atingbi organised by Adhakshya Kh Janaki Devi.
Bishnupur: The NESO's total shutdown backed by AMSU crippled normal life at Bishnupur district.
Kumbi Keithel, Moirang Keithel, Kwakta Keithel, Ningthoukhong Keithel, Bishnupur Keithel, Oinam Keithel, Nambol Keithel and others remained shut.
Transport services were crippled.
Kumbi Apunba Nupi Lup, Joint Committee on Manipur Integrity, Moirang sub-division, Ithing Leisha Phal and Mairembam Leikai Youth Club blocked roads and supported the shutdown.
Police drove away supporters blocking roads at many places.
The total shutdown also affected normal life in Kakching district.
Shops, transport services remained shut.
