MIYC points finger at GoI
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 10 2024: In light of the ongoing turmoil in the border district of Jiribam, the Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) has accused the Indian Government of waging a proxy war on Meiteis in cahoots with Kuki militants.

A press release issued by T Parijat Singh, coordinator, MIYC stated that though the conflict erupted on May 3, 2023, a peace committee was formed in Jiribam on May 5 which sought to maintain peace and prevent violence in the district.

However, on June 6, 2024 Kuki militants disrupted the long-prevailing peace in the multi-ethnic district of Jiribam with the brutal killing of Soibam Saratkumar Singh (59) .

At this juncture, MIYC accused the Indian security forces of being hands in glove with Kuki militants and attempting to make Jiribam a part of "occupied Manipur" .

Though roughly 80 Meetei houses including religious shrines and Jirimukh Police Outpost, Chhotobekra Police Outpost and Goakhal Forest Beat Office were torched in the ensuing violence, neither the State nor the Central forces were able to take any tangible action against the culprits, said MIYC.

Alleging that Kuki militants have the active support of the Indian Government in waging war on Manipur, MIYC held the Central Government culpable of "full scale State-sponsored terrorism" .

MIYC also highlighted a recent statement made by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheik Hasina about Western interests that seek to carve out a Christian State by balkanizing Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The National Unity Government (NUG) and the People's Defence Forces (PDF) are also being used to achieve this goal, said MIYC.

It further maintained that parts of Manipur and other North Eastern States will be affected in the creation of this Christian State.

In addition, the Bangladesh Prime Minister had endorsed stringent action to root out Kuki militants (KNF) from Bangladesh, said MIYC.

Reiterating the alleged complicity of the Indian Government in the ongoing conflict, MIYC claimed that 21 individuals who were arrested in connection with the arson of an open gym at Churachandpur on April 27, 2023 were set free thanks to BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, Saikot AC MLA Paolienlal Haokip and the-then DGP.

MIYC went on to accuse the Indian Government of using the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact as a ruse to turn a blind eye on the collection of funds, building weapons and recruiting cadres by Kuki militants.

MIYC also commented on the baffling status of the SoO pact.

The atrocities committed by Kuki militants on the people of Manipur are nothing short of an "ethnic cleansing, a genocide or a war crime".

The Kuki militants under SoO pact have violated the Common Article 3 of Four Geneva Conventions, 1949 .

Thus, MIYC urged the human rights organisations in the State to investigate the matter and report their findings to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other relevant departments of the United Nations.

Lastly, MIYC urged the relevant authority to provide adequate number of doctors, staff and ambulance vehicles at Jiribam District Hospital in preparation for any unexpected incidents in the trouble-torn district.
