IGAR (S) hosts Ningol Chakkouba feast

In keeping up with the time honoured Manipuri traditions and true to its credo of 'Friends of Manipur', IGAR (South) celebrated Ningol Chakkouba today.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, the event was organised by 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) wherein womenfolk from various walks of life and communities of the State were invited.
Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra, IG AR(South) extended a traditional welcome to the Ningols who in reciprocation offered fruits and other eatables (Athenpot).
This was followed by lighting of the lamp and speeches by prominent women dignitaries and IG AR(South) himself.
The programme also marked the felicitation of various women for their outstanding contribution towards the society.
The lunch was organised as per Manipuri traditions, with everyone eating the traditional Manipuri meal on plantain leaves and being served by the personnel of Assam Rifles attired in Pheijoms.
The spell binding function was graced by over 200 Ningols, informed the release.
Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra in his message, appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Manipuri womenfolk in all walks of life and added that it was an honour to host the Ningols.
He appealed to the women folk to continue their inimitable role of maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society and emphasized that in the current milieu, wherein the state is undergoing a drastic transformation, the women can make a big difference.
The women expressed gratitude towards the noble gesture of Assam Rifles and said that it shall further strengthen the bond between the security forces and the local populace and will definitely contribute towards bringing peace to the State.
