Imphal, August 09 2022: PHED Minister L Sushindro has stated that the Government is in talk with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to improve the operation of Imphal Airport and ensure regular flight services.

Speaking to media persons while inspecting the runway of Imphal Airport, the Minister stated that take off and landing of flights at Imphal Airport, at times, face difficulties due to inundation of a portion of the runway and its surrounding areas, especially during the monsoon season.

Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi also took part in the inspection visit.

Saying that the Government, nonetheless, has been holding a dialogue with the AAI to improve the facilities at the Imphal Airport, the Minister stated that excavation work has been initiated to prevent flooding at the runway by draining the water at Nambul River after passing through Waishel Maril.

Similar excavation work has also been initiated at Waishel Maril, he added.
