Two Horticulture officials abducted by suspected Kuki militants

Imphal, August 09, 2013:
After seven persons including four engineers of Dolaithabi Project were abducted and later released by a Kuki underground outfit under SoO just few days back, two officers of Horticulture Department, both in the rank of Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) have ben abducted again by suspected cadres of KNF (P) from Kanglatongbi Keithel around 11 am yesterday.
The abducted persons have been identified as Meinam Priyokumar (56), s/o (late) Debendra of Yaiskul Jamasthan, Imphal West district and Wangkheirakpam Ibopishak (50) of Nongmeibung, Imphal East district.
Both are posted in Senapati district.
Priyokumar is currently posted as manager at Regional Progeny Orchard, Maram.
According to sources, both of them were heading for Senapati in Priyokumar's Chevrolet Spark car (maroon colour) bearing registration number MN-01/W 6689 at around 8.30 am yesterday, when they were abducted by some suspected cadres of KNF (P) in plain clothes from Kanglatongbi Keithel.
However, the car was left behind at the spot.
Later, a team of Sekmai Police Station recovered the car from Kanglatongbi Keithel.
When enquired about the owner of the car, the police came to know that both Priyokymar and Ibopishak have been abducted by suspected KNF (P) cadres.
Officers of Saparmeina and Kangpokpi Police Stations said that they had no knowledge about the abduction of the two Horticulture officials.
Police and AR are conducting joint operations to rescue the abducted persons.
However, the whereabouts of the abducted officials have not been able to establish so far.
The police reports suggested that the abduction may be related to monetary demand.
Meanwhile, family members of the abducted officials have appealed for their safe release on humanitarian ground as soon as possible.
