JAC Women Front Against the Unnatural Shifting of District Hospital, Imphal East Sagolmang has threatened to launch intense agitation if the State Government fails to take up steps to construct Imphal East District Hospital at Sagolmang by May 12 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the JAC's co-convenor Wahengbam Premila explained that the foundation stone for the hospital was laid at Sagolmang in 2011.As per approval from the Cabinet (October 4, 2017), an order was issued on November 23 last year for shifting Sagolmang Community Health Centre (CHC) to Bashikhong so as to build the hospital at Sagolmang, she claimed.
' Premila explained that in a shocking turn of events, the Health Minister attended a foundation stone laying event for building Imphal East District Hospital at Kyamgei instead of Sagolmang on April 6 this year and added that the people of Khundrakpam A/C vehemently condemn the action of the authority concerned.
The people of Khundrakpam A/C have been launching various protests ever since April 7, but the State Government has failed to heed the demand of the people.
Warning that the JAC along with the people will launch intense protest if the State Government fails to take up any positive steps by May 12, Premila claimed that rich and wealthy people and officials can fly all the way to Delhi for even the slightest ailments but the poor villagers cannot even go to Imphal for treatment.
Questioning whether Khundrakpam A/C is not a village in light of the State Government's Go to Villages mission, the co-convenor also urged the authority concerned to heed the demands of the people.
Later, the JAC and its members attempted to organise a rally to submit a memorandum to the Governor but they were prevented from going any further by police.
A select few were allowed to submit the memorandum to the Governor.
