Left Co-Ordination Comimittee, HERICOUN and CSOs unite against CAB

Left Coordination Committee, Manipur comprising of CPI, CPI (M), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Forward Bloc are set to launch intense agitation against the recently passed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill from January 11.This was stated by Left Co-Ordination Committee, Manipur, Chairman, L Sotinkumar during a press meet held at Irabot Bhawan this evening.
Strongly condemning the passing of the Bill, Sotinkumar said that the Bill which solely focus on Hindu homeland would severely affect the indigenous people of North East, if the Bill becomes an Act.
The statement of Home Minister Rajnath Singh which claimed that the citizenship will be given to Non-Muslim immigrants coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in all the States of the country and not just in Assam and other North East States is a lie and cannot be trusted, he added.
The Bill is for electoral gains, Sotinkumar said and demanded to that the Bill be withdrawn at the earliest.
Expressing hope that the people will stand against the Bill, Sotinkumar said that a protest meeting will be convened by Left Co-Ordination Committee, Manipur on January 11 at Imphal.
Meanwhile, Etho-Heritage Council (HERICOUN) said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that was passed yesterday is anti-people and racist that challenges the indigenous people of North East India.
As per the resolution of a discussion programme held under the theme "A discourse on Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016' on June 9, last year, participated by representatives of regional and National political piarties, HERIOCOUN submitted a memoranda to the Prim e Minister; Home Minister; Law Minister; president of India National Congress; Governor Dr Najma Heptulla; Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other authorities concerned not to let the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 be passed, said vice president and media coordinator of HERICOUN, Laishram Sanajaoba Meetei in a statement and added the passing of the Bill despite strong opposition clearly indie ates that the Government has no concern for the people of the State.
The move of the Central Government to give: citizenship to 6 different Non-Muslim communities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan without any valid documents amidst strong demand from several CSOs and people to introduce a Biill to check the influx of migrants to the State clearly show their disregard for the indigenous people of North East, especially Manipur, added the statement.
Extending solidarity to all, the statement maintained that HERICOUN will join hands with the people to agitate against the Bill.
Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup, (AIMS); Centre For Research and Advocacy, Manipur; Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK); Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) and Socialist Students Union of Manipur (SSUM) too condemned the Citizenship (Amendment) Billl.
