Imphal, January 09 2015 :
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) held a public meeting on January 8 at Chingakham Kabui Community Hall, Imphal West following the intrusion and destruction of a newly constructed house on December 22 by some people led by three individuals, according to a statement issued by ZYF(AMN) president Titus Kamei.
The meeting was attended by the presidents of the United Naga Council, ZYF (AMN) and Rongmei Luh Phuam (AMN), vice-president of Zeliangrong Union (AMN), joint secretary of Zeliangrong Baudi, ZYF chairman and colleagues, Bishnupur zone, Imphal East, West and Nungba zone, vice-chairman and his colleagues of ZYF, Sadar Hills zone, ZYF general secretary and colleagues, Churachandpur zone, ZU chairman, Imphal zone, National Students Union of India, Imphal unit representatives, AZACO president and colleagues, chairman and elders from different Zeliangrong villages, women organisation leaders and youth club representatives.
The public meeting, while strongly condemning the unlawful activities, decided to submit memoranda to the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM urging for immediate intervention into the matter, provision of necessary protection and ensure safety and security of lives and properties.
The public meeting also agreed to submit memorandum to the Civil Judge (senior division), Thoubal appealing the same to take up the case at the earliest in compliance with the order passed by Gauhati High Court, Imphal bench on July 11, 2014 directing the civil judge (Sr Division), Thoubal 'to dispose off original (declaration) suit No.12 of 2013 as early as possible preferably within one year from the date of communication of this order..', in order to avoid such incidents in the future.
The public meeting took serious note of the incident as police personnel posted at Lilong police station led by an officer miserably failed to enforce law and order despite their physical presence during the incident.
The body has also demanded compensation from the State Government for the loss and damage of properties as per the customary law of Zeliangrong.
The Zeliangrong customary law regards the pulling down/destruction of a house something like the crime of committing murder.
As the incident happened in the physical presence of the police personnel, the meeting ruled that the destruction would be considered pre-meditated and pre-planned by the State with ulterior motives in case the State Government fails to compensate the damages.
The public meeting further warned the perpetrators to refrain from committing such unlawful activities in the future.
It further demanded the same to maintain communal harmony adding that similar activities, if repeated, would not be tolerated.
