Imphal, September 08 2021:
The Government should not act like the free rations and free vaccination provided to the citizens of the country under the National Disaster Management Act are being provided out of their own pockets.
MPCC general secretary, Punam Rani Wangkhem said this at relief material distribution held today at Irilbung Machahal in the name of his late brother former Minister Vivekraj Wangkhem in collaboration with Irilbung Youth Club.
Speaking at the event, she alleged that the Chief Minister's statement appealing to the public to stay at home and while the Government delivered free ration was in fact derogatory to the status of the public.
Under the National Disaster Management directives, the provision to provide free shelter, ration and medical facilities to the public in times of a national disaster by the Central Government through the State Governments were already present.
As such the Government should, in fact, implement the National Disaster Management Act properly in the State instead of acting like the relief materials and medical facilities being given were funded from their own pockets, she added.
Punam Rani Wangkhem also distributed relief materials to locals of Irilbung Kalika.
