Imphal, August 08 2024:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) and some other village authorities have lodged complaints with different police stations pertaining to the petition by one Paominlen Haokip to the National Commission of Scheduled Tribes (NCST) to balkanise Manipur and carve out separate administration/Union Territory for Kuki people.
The complaints were lodged by FoH, Kharam Pallen Village Authority, Kangchup Chiru Village Authority, Laikot Phaijol Village Authority and Laikot Kom Village Authority with Yaingangpokpi, Lamlai, Lamsang, Irilbung (outpost) and Imphal West police stations.
These village authorities, in their complaints, said that Paominlen depicted their villages as Kuki villages in his outline of the scheduled boundary of Kuki Hills with Manipur Government land.
Saying that their villages are recognised villages from the time of Manipur Kings, he added that they are not Kukis and their villages are not related with Kuki Hills.
FoH, in a statement, said that Paominlen Haokip (Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur-Kuki Hill villages-L Chajang, Saikul Sub-Division, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi) submitted the petition to the Chairman of NCST on January 27, 2024 with a demand to carve out a separate administration/Union Territory with legislature for Kuki people.
The petitioner wrongfully depicted several villages of Maring, Kom, Aimol, Thangal, Purum, Chiru, Koireng etc as Kuki villages in his petition.
Paominlen Haokip, in his petition, also claimed that only 700 square miles of Manipur was merged with India and Outer Manipur was never a part of the merger, the Federation contended.
Outer Manipur was depicted as Kuki Hills in the petition to NCST, it claimed.
Saying that Paominlen also accused the Manipur Government of encroaching on lands of the Kuki people and robbing the rights of the tribals, the Federation contended that the petitioner also submitted a concocted scheduled boundary of Kuki Hills as Chasad area, Mombi/Longpi area, Jampi area, Haokip reserved area (presently Churachandpur), Manlun principality, Guite principality and Singson principality to NCST.
The Federation said that they and some other village authorities have lodged complaints with police stations so as to take legal actions against Paominlen Haokip for scheming to break Manipur apart and subdue the indigenous communities.
