Shija Hospitals inaugurates 'Family Adoption Programme'

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) organized a one-day free health camp in connection with the inauguration of the Family Adoption Programme under the Department of Community Medicine, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS) today at Community Hall, Langol.
As per a press release by SHRI, the health camp was organized in collaboration with Langol Youth Development Club, (LYDC), Langol.
A total of 158 patients across different specialties were examined during the camp.
The Family Adoption Programme is a new initiative of the National Medical Commission (NMC) aimed to provide healthcare services to rural areas/ outskirts of towns or cities of the country in an equitable manner as well as to impart community-oriented training to the budding Indian Medical graduates.
This program was mandated by the NMC to be included in the MBBS curriculum on 31st March 2022 .
It may be noted that SAHS is the first medical college in the State to implement the family adoption program.
As a part of the program, each MBBS student will be assigned 2-5 families to visit on a regular basis in order to gather family history, conduct clinical examinations and provide counseling under the supervision of a Mentor (Assistant Professor/Senior Resident/ Tutor/ Medical Social Worker).
The students will function as the first point of contact for any health issues within the community, added the release.
