Imphal, February 08 2020:
Stating that people's partici-pation and support have been constant sources of inspiration for the Manipur People's Army (UNLF's armed wing) to carry on its fight against Indian military forces, the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the proscribed UNLF has con-veyed gratitude to all the people of the State.
A statement issued by UNLF MAC Chairman Khundongbam Pambei on the occasion of MPA's 33rd raising day (February 9) remarked that the people of Manipur have been living a wretched life since Manipur was forcibly merged into the Indian Union in 1949 .
As a result of several policies of the Government of India which are all aimed at keeping all the communities of the region under their rule, many people including the so called educated ones have embraced a notion that the people of Manipur cannot survive without depending on India.
To create such a situation, the Government has been following multi-pronged strategies including military oppression and economic subjugation, the MAC alleged.
The MAC cited the cases of prolonged imposition of AFSPA and the NHPC's Loktak Project which submerged 80,000 hectares of fertile agricultural land and settlement areas.
As an outcome of the Loktak Project, Manipur has been losing Rs 300 crore annually, it said.
A large number of people who depended on Loktak Lake for their livelihood have been pushed to abject poverty and many of them have been rendered homeless.
People had already taken out protest rallies demanding decommi-ssioning of the Loktak Project as well as Ithai Barrage.
With all its economic bases destroyed systematically, Manipur has been reduced to the status of a captive market for India, it alleged.
Government of India's policies aimed at making Manipur fully dependent on India are being endorsed by the State Government.
The State Government is yet to formulate a single policy to take Manipur on the path of economic self-reliance.
The State Government's outlook is restricted to begging funds from the Central Government for any work/project.
Such attitude of the State Government indicates that Manipur survives by depending on India, it alleged.
One working principle of BJP and RSS is to exterminate or merge all minority communities of India with the majority Hindu community.
One very convenient tool for Hinduisation of all minority communities is the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 .
As such, the Central Government paid little heed to the sustained ant-CAA protest which raged across WESEA.
All democratic protest agitation against CAA were suppressed with brute military force, the MAC asserted.
Given such policy of the Central Government which is based on Hindutva, indigenous peoples of WESEA have been facing series threat of population invasion.
The CAA has another hidden agenda to suppress the liberation movements of WESEA by opening a floodgate of influx to people of neighbouring countries who belong to the same race as mainland Indians, it alleged.
Instead of exploring ways and means to protect the indigenous people from the influx of non-local people, the State Government has been befooling the people by claiming that the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) can effectively protect indigenous people from the influx of non-local people.
The ILPS guidelines framed by the State Government are totally hollow and toothless, it remarked.
