Bishnupur, November 07 2024:
Internally displaced folks from three relief camps in Wangoo have collectively appealed against visiting relief camps to allegedly engage in "political mudslinging" .
This was said in response to Inner Manipur Congress MP Bimol Akoijam's "unannounced visit" at Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai Community Hall Relief Camp yesterday accompanied by Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit and other notable Congress members.
IDPs and relief camp volunteers from the camps at Wangoo Shellungkhong Upper Primary School, Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai Community Hall and Wangoo Higher Secondary School expressed this sentiment during a press briefing held at Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai Community Hall today.
Speaking to media persons, one Tampha, originally from Tangjeng Ahallup and currently sheltering at Wangoo Shellungkhong Upper Primary School Relief Camp, thanked the MP for visiting the IDPs.
However, she shared that the IDPs are aggrieved as issues pertaining to their living conditions or returning to their original homes were allegedly not addressed.
Instead, she accused the Congress MP of engaging in political mudslinging while asserting that the MLA of Kumbi AC has been consistently tending to their needs.
Leave politics behind when visiting relief camps.
All politicians should come together to alleviate the suffering of the IDPs instead, she added.
Additionally, Amom Binoy, volunteer at Wangoo Shellungkhong Upper Primary School Relief Camp said that the Congress MP and MLA team made the visit without giving any prior information to the Kumbi AC MLA, relief camp volunteers or IDPs.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the visit claiming that they did not address the plight of the victims of arson at Tangjeng, Napat and Torbung under Kumbi AC.
He appealed against playing politics to mislead the IDPs.
Instead, he urged the Inner Manipur Congress MP as well as the Chief Minister and the local MLA to work towards alleviating the hardships faced by IDPs and resettling them in their homes.
