Imphal, June 07 2011:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur has demanded blacklisting five contractors alleging that the works implemented by them are sub-standard.
The body also demanded placing the section officers (SOs) looking after the construction works under suspension from their services.
The students' body, in a statement signed by its information and publicity secretary of ZSUM, David Kamei alleged that construction works being taken by the five contractors, Kalanchuang Kamei (special contractor), Jessy Kamei (special contractor), Sunil, Bobby and Daoji were found lacking quality when its volunteers and constituents units had inspected construction sites.
Apart from blacklisting them with immediate effect, the SOs looking after the works should also be placed under suspension from their services, the statement demanded.
The concerned department should bear the responsibility of any untoward incidents for failing to comply with their demands, the statement warned.
It further asked why these five contractors should not be blacklisted when the contractor of the Nambol river embankment has earlier been blacklisted on moral ground.
The statement said that sub-standard to various works awarded to the five contractors were found when volunteers of the students' body and its constituents units inspected construction sites at various places including the erection of two blocks of Barak Bridge at Katang side.
