Emergency action plans set into motion at CCpur ; 9 more cases of dog-bite reported in 2 days

Lamka, January 07 2015: Amidst rising cases of dog-bite in the district, the district administration has since last night set into motion emergency action plans even as the number of dog-bite cases continue to increase with nine more cases reported in the past two days, taking the figure since January 1 to a staggering 32 .

Taking into account the rise in cases of dog-bite despite a magisterial order issued on December 30 last, the District Magistrate Lunminthang Haokip last night issued another order announcing the formation a Rapid Action (Mobile) Team specifically to deal with the issue.

The Rapid Action (Mobile) Team, formed to monitor and keep vigil of dog-bite cases will be responsible for duty 24x7, said an order issued by the District Magistrate, Lunminthang Haokip late last night.

The order has listed five top offices of the district, with separate helpline numbers for immediate and urgent remedial actions.

The listed offices are Superintendent of Police (8413015102), Chief Medical Office (825056494), Jt Director, Vety & AH (9863184109), CEO District Council (9862159042) and SDO Churachandpur (8732066037) .

Besides, the CEO, District Council, Veterinary and Medical departments will set-up one mobile team each to attend to any emergency while the public has been requested to contact any of the helpline numbers to report dog-bite cases.

Picking up any unattended dogs loitering in the open street, to administer necessary medical aid (anti-rabies) to the victims of dog-bites, arranging ambulance service round the clock with necessary medical staff, maintaining and opening vaccination centres are some of the responsibilities the order has listed for the offices.

Detailing of security personnel for the mobile team was specifically mentioned for the SP office while the SDO Churachandpur is tasked with the mobile publicity for the town area.

Three dog bite victims treated Tuesday at the District Hospital Churachandpur were identified as Khenpau (65) of Bungmual; Soson (30) of Tuibuong; and Thangsuanlun (2) of Gangpimual.

Cases of Paulaljohn (4) of Phailian; Lalngakmoun (19) of Leijang; Rengpui (44) of Saikot; Zenlianmawi (2) of Gouchinkhup Veng; Nengsuanmang (45) of Mission Veng and Rakesh (24) of Old Bazar were reported today.

Meanwhile, several social organisations particularly from New Lamka area have begun a drive to eliminate stray and unattended dogs within their locality since yesterday.

It is not exactly known how many kill has been made but photos posted on social networking sites confirmed that some have been killed indeed.

Yet there was no report of any such exercise to collect or kill stray dogs by any of the Government Depts.

The Veterinary Department has however claimed that they have so far administered over 1000 doses of anti-rabies vaccine in the past one week or so.
