Imphal, August 06 2015:
For the first time, doctors of SKY Hospital, RIMS Road performed primary coronary angioplasty, also known as primary PCI to treat patients with heart attack.
Sunil (53) of Uripok Panchai Maning suffered from a massive heart attack with 100 percent obstruction of a coronary artery.
After he was rushed brought to the hospital, he underwent primary PCI on August 1 to open the obstructed coronary artery.
The artery was completely obstructed with no blood flow through it.
After the successful coronary angioplasty, normal blood flow to the heart was restored thereby regenerating the dying heart muscle.
SKY Hospital also performs such coronary angioplasty with stent electively for patients with angina (chest pain) to prevent heart attack.
Sunil expressed his gratitude to Dr L Shyamkishore, Chairman and Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital to make such treatment facility available in Manipur.
