Stepping up counter insurgency operations ahead of the Independence Day 2013 celebration, Imphal East commandos have seized two hand grenades, two 9 mm pistols and two magazines containing some live rounds apart from pulling up three UG cadres from different areas of Imphal East district.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of Imphal East District Police, Additional SP M Rajen said that as done in the previous years, mobile frisking, checking and search operationsare being conducted at different places ahead of the Independence Day.
In the course of the stepped up counter insurgency operations, KNO/KLA activist Solal Touthang alias Kansa alias Lalboy (38) s/o Jangkholun Touthang of T Zordanphai village was apperehended from New Lambulane, Tribal Market at around 5 pm of August 4 .
Solal Touthang underwent basic military training at Thongbul under Saikul PS in Senapati district under army number 0382 of 4th batch in the year 2003 .
He was involved in kinapping for ransom and extortion from the general public as well as Government offices, ASP Rajen said.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Addl SP (OPs), IE said Touthang joined KNF (N) organisation on June 2013 through Thangboi Haokip, S/S Finance Secretary of KNF(N) which is now working under the command of one S/S Sergeant Ranjit Kipgen of KNF (N) of Sugnu while Touthang was also involved in extortion of money from the general public, Government officials, private firms etc.
further he had demanded a sum of Rs 20,00,000 to a retired Chief Engineer IFCD, Gangte at Dewlahland.
One Moirangthem Kalachand alias Biren (55) s/o late M Ibotombi of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, Imphal West who identified himself as active member of PREPAK (Pro) was arrested from Bamon Leikai at about 6.50 pm of the same day.
One 9 mm pistol marked as 'Auto Metric Pistal, Made in Italy', one magazine containing two live rounds and a mobile phone were recovered from the possession of Kalachand.
Acting on the disclosure of Kalachand, Imphal East commandos another active member of the same outfit identified as Khumukcham Bishwajit alias Nanao (48) s/o late Kh Budhichandra of Moirangkhom Bazar from Bamon Leikai at about 7.45 pm of the same day.
One 9 mm pistol of the same brand recovered from Kalachand, one magazine containing three live rounds and two Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the backyard of Bishwajit's home.
The Additional SP said that further investigation was on.
