Youth forum organised

Imphal, June 06 2011:
An Imphal West district level youth forum on sexual reproductive health and rights was organised at Youth Health Information Centre, Keishamthong Top Leirak today.
Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar graced the occasion as chief guest.
Student organization representatives, youth leaders, media persons, drug and HIV/AIDS activists participated the programme.
The forum was initiated by Future Development Drug Users' Organization with technical support from Social Awareness Service Organization, Alliance India and European Union.
The main objective of the forum was to create a consistent dialogue among different stakeholders on SRHR and to empower youth leaders.
In his speech, L Jayantakumar stated that stakeholders including civil society organisations, NGOs, and public as a whole must be united to address the health issues among youths.
He also said that the State Health Department has a provision of educating school children under School Health Programme.
Under the same initiative, he assured to include the same provision on SRHR in one or two selected schools.
The forum recommended to constitute a district level body on SRHR.
It also decided to form an advisory committee consisting of student organizations, drug users' activists and media personnel.
