CM inspects works at Kangla, Cheiraoching

Chief Minister N Biren Singh today inspected various construction works going on around Imphal city.
He first visited Kangla and took a first hand account of the bridge construction work over Imphal River, at the eastern side of Kangla to pave way for opening of Nongpok Thong (Eastern Gate) of the Fort.
From there, he went to Cheiraoching and inspected the ongoing construction of Eco-Tourism Park there.
The project is likely to get inaugurated within this month.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Works Minister Thongam Biswajit, Education Minister Soro-khaibam Rajen, Labour Minister Thokchom Satya-brata, MAHUD Minister Okram Henry, Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro, State Planning Board Deputy Chairman L Rameshwor, Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board Chairman Heikham Dingo and several Government officials.
Addressing the media, N Biren said that the State Government is committed towards protection and preservation of sacred sites of Kangla and has been putting in efforts to revive and promote the culture and traditions of the State.
He added that a dedicated footpath/cycling track would be constructed along the Imphal river at the eastern side of Kangla where no other vehicles would be allowed to ply.
The Chief Minister informed that antique remains of an old structure were found at the construction site at Kangla and the samples have been sent for further archaeological research.
He also stated the old structure would be preserved in its form without causing any damage while constructing the bridge over it.
It may be noted that Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba had recently moved a Special Motion in Parliament to declare Kangla a world heritage site.
