Locals stage sit in protest

Thoubal, November 05 2017: Locals of Lilong Chingkham and members of Rural Area’s United Club Organisation (RAUCO), today, staged a sit in protest at Lilong Chingkham near the wooden bridge, condemning the incident of firing gunshot at the residence of Thoubal Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha at around midnight yesterday .

Speaking to media persons, president of RAUCO, Md Hellaluddin said that the people of the area want to live in peace but such act of violence has resulted in an tense atmosphere and further condemned the incident .

He also appealed those concerned not to repeat such acts in the future .

He explained that the incident happened last night, at around 12.05 am at the residence of the two times elected Zilla Parishad, Molana Abdul Salam alias Fasal and his wife Hasina Begum, who had been elected in the recent Zilla Parishad election as Adhyaksha of Thoubal Zilla Parishad .

Asking those responsible to clarify the motive behind the incident, he said that the incident happened soon after they had organised a meeting with some Ward Members for bringing development to the area .

On the other hand, Hasina Begum said that she did not receive any kind of threat from anyone nor recognise the individuals responsible for the act .

Molana Adbul Salam also said that a similar attack occurred when he was first elected as Zilla Parishad in the year 2007 .

Teams of Lilong police collected three empty bullet casings and a projectile from the spot .

A case has also been registered regarding the incident.
