The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations have submitted a joint memorandum to the Union Home Minister as well as the Chief Minister of the State, and have served an ultimatum of 72 hours to book the cadres and functionaries of NSCN/GPRN (IM) who were involved in the abduction of the youth and student leaders yesterday at Tamenglong District HQ .
A press release issued by Heurang Newme, State secretary of Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur today claimed that the youth and student leaders were abducted by NSCN/GPRN (IM) under the directive of Sangailung Kamei, Central Administrative Officer, (CAO), Zeilad Region and Thailik alias Joel, Deputy Kilonser and Khangdi, captain of NSCN/GPRN (IM).
The abducted youth and student leaders were held captive in a house belonging to one Aduana Kamei.
who is also a functionary of NSCN/GPRN (IM), at Tamenglong district HQ.
The abductees namely Ngankiuwang Kamei, newly elected assistant secretary, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong district (ZSUTD), David Kamei, vice-president, ZYF (AMN), Mathiusang Panmei, former coordinator, ZSUTD, Wiramang Newmai, vice-chairman, ZSUM, ED Chunlubou, former vice-chairman, ZSUM, and Jeremiah Gangmei, newly elected coordinator, ZSUTD, were released only when the State and Central security forces intervened, it claimed and appreciated the timely action of the security forces.
It alleged that the armed cadres of NSCN/GPRN (IM) mentally and psychologically tortured the student leaders who had gone to conduct the election of ZSUTD on August 3, at the Circuit House, Tamenglong HQ.
The armed cadres also warned that strong action would be taken up in case the election of the said students body is held, it said and added that it is shameful for the group which is negotiating with the Central Government to meddle in such election.
Condemning the NSCN/GPRN (IM) for indulging in such criminal and anti social activities, it appealed to the Central Government to take up appropriate action against the involved cadres and functionaries.
If the authorities concerned fail to take up proper action within 72 hours, the Zeliangrong Civil Societies will resort to various kinds of democratic agitation in collaboration with other like minded civil organizations, it warned.
