Imphal, July 05 2019:
Volunteers of CADA Imphal West district committee and Imphal East district committee, seized a large quantity of foreign liquor amounting to around Rs 3 lakh, from Peoples' Store, Lamphel at around 2 pm today.
A press release issued by the secretary information and publicity CADA, today mentioned that the foreign liquor which were seized from the shop belonging to one Salam Deepak (27) s/o S Santosh of Thangmeiband Khomdram Sellungba Leikai, were disposed at the spot by the volunteers.
It then questioned whether the Government and the police have failed miserably to maintain proper rules and regulations even though Manipur is a dry State as a virtue of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 .
CADA expressed suspicion whether the State Government is in cahoots with the businessmen in the sale of liquor by keeping the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 just for namesake.
Reminding about the past attempts of the State Government to pass a Liquor Bill in the Assembly for enabling production of liquor for the supposed aim of generating revenue for the State, CADA explained that liquor bottle called Sekmai and labelled 'Not for sale in Manipur' were also found among the seized items today which brings into question the credibility of the assurance which was given by the Government to ensure production but not let the liquor be sold in the State.
CADA will not stand silent when it comes to any attempt to destroy the people and the society by concocting lies and empty promises, it cautioned.
