Seven miscreants held for damaging tomato harvests

A team of Bishnupur district police arrested seven youths in their early 20s for allegedly damaging tomato harvests and marigold plantation at Nambol Kangmong area.
Notably, the arrests came after a video of some miscreants damaging and destroying marigold plantation and tomato harvests, kept for transportation on roadside, surfaced and went viral on social media sites including Facebook and WhatsApp.
One of them had allegedly recorded the video and shared the same on social media.
The incidents happened at Nambol Kangmong and Kangmong Langonjam Maning Leikai under Nambol Police Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Longjam Othello Meitei (24), s/o Loken, Naorem Somorjit Singh (24), s/o N Guna, Sorokhaibam Leishemba (19), s/o Eshei, Khaidem Malemnganba (22), s/o (L) Manihar, Nongmaithem Robertjain (20), s/o Sanatomba, Laishram Kumarjit (23) s/o Shamo and Naorem Bipinchandra (21), s/o Meghachandra, all from Heigrujam Maning Leikai.
The district police tracked down the youths involved in the incidents with the help of Cyber Crime Police Station, Imphal West.
A team of Cyber Crime Police Station led by Sub Inspector K Abhijeet established the identity of the miscreants and their locations.
Sources said that they allegedly destroyed fields of marigold flowers of one Irengbam Maniyai (48) at Kangmong Maning Leikai and further they trampled and destroyed the tomatoes piled up on the road side.
They have been handed over to Nambol Police Station for further necessary legal action.
