Elders celebrate Van Mahotsav in Ukhrul

Ukhrul elderly persons' association (Kajami Long) joined Van Mahotsav celebration and planted tree saplings at different locations of Ukhrul town today.
Kajami Long is a non profit organization formed by like minded senior citizens from Tangkhul community, who have great concern for restoring the depleted forests.
Secretary of Kajami Long, Hongva said that the association was constituted in 2017 with the objective to make Ukhrul clean, green and pollution free.
The Kajami Long has been organising awareness campaigns on environmental issues through their selfless contributions without any assistance from Government or other agencies.
The members have been teaching youngsters - how the Tangkhul community traditionally maintains the forest land in the past.
They have been advocating love for environment, preservation and judicious utilisation of forest resources without harming ecological balance, said Hongva.
Vahei Zingkhai of Ukhrul town also highlighted some of the activities taken up and said that they visited remote villages of Ukhrul district carrying awareness on climate change caused by wanton felling of trees, forest fire, use of chemicals, pesticides and illegal fishing activities in rivers.
They also distribute pamphlets to the public about the need to preserve forest and related environment issues on different occasions, Zingkhai said.
The tree plantation campaign was participated by many senior citizens.
