Murder of Dhiren: JAC sets deadline

Demanding that the State Government produce those involved in the alleged murder of construction worker namely Ningthoujam Dhiren (28) s/o N Birgopal of Kumbi IB Road within three days, the JAC formed in con-nection with the case declared that strong agitation would be launched if the culprit(s) cannot be identified or pulled up.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, JAC member Laishram Kiren said Dhiren was found dead at a drain of an under-construction house located in Kakwa Bazar on December 31 afternoon.
Stating that Dhiren's demise is suspicious, the JAC member also stated that the victim's family members came to know about the unfortunate incident through masons Sorokhaibam Nabachandra and Thouchom Premkumar, both from Kumbi Terakhong at around 3.30 pm on new year's day (January 1) .
Both were at Tamei village engaged in a construction work and were asked to convey the information by the contractor Kumar, narrated Kiren who also noted that Kumar was informed about the incident by Dhiren's co-worker namely Premjit at around 3.20 pm.
Claiming that information was received about quarrel between Dhiren and some of his co-workers inside the temporary workshed in Kakwa Bazar on New Year's eve, he said taking into account the scuffle that preceded Dhiren's death possibility of Dhiren being murdered cannot be ruled out.
Moreover, injury marks spotted on the victim's head, chest, abdomen and limbs indicate that he was thrashed severely before being slain, opined the JAC member who also conveyed that fall from under-construction building was cited for Dhiren's demise.
It is also said that Dhiren's mobile phone was in switch-off mode when his wife Pur- nima tried to call at around 7 pm of December 31 .
Reiterating JAC's demand that the culprits responsible for Dhiren's death be pulled up within the specified period failing which intense movement would be launched, Kiren also said that the JAC has lodged a complaint at Kakwa PS on January 1 .
Dhiren is survived by his wife and two children.
