Following the radio satellite tagging of two Amur Falcons yesterday, three more Amur Falcons were also fitted with satellite radio transmitters today by Forest Department and Wild Life Institute of India and released into the wild.
A team led by Wild Life Institute of India Scientist Dr Suresh Kumar along with Tamenglong Honorary Wild Life Wardens Dr Chambo Gonmei and Nehemia Panmei, Puching village chairman, Chiulon chairman, Phalong village secretary, Rainforest club Tamenglong and Forest Department officials were present during the process of tagging the birds and releasing them from Puching village at around 11 am today.
The birds were named Barak (female) after Barak river, which flows through Tamenglong district, and Phalong and Chiulon, two villages in the district respectively as these are prominent places where the bird usually comes to rest or feed.
A source mentioned that Barak weighs 185 gm while Phalong and Chiulon weigh 170 gm and 150 gm respectively.
Meanwhile, Wildlife Institute of India Scientist Dr Suresh Kumar underlined the need for landscape conservation and for all the villages to participate in preserving Amur Falcons.
