Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 01 2022: The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West on Monday remanded the prime accused of a murder attempt case to judicial custody while three other co-accused have been released on baily.

The main accused has been identified as Irom Rakesh (25) s/o Bira of Lamboi Khongnangkhong Mamang Leikai while the three co-accused have been identified as Irom Henery (22), Irom Dinachandra (25) and Adhikarimayum Romio Sharma (18) s/o Sanjoy of Takyel Khongbal Mayai Leikai.

Rakesh, Henery and Dinachandra are said to be brothers.

After completion of the police custody period, they were produced before the Court by a team of Patsoi police station today along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.

On the other hand, the defence counsel of the alleged accused filed a remand objection and prayed for releasing them on bail.

The IO of the case submitted that on May 22, a relative of the victim lodged a complaint at Patsoi police station stating that on May 21, the main accused and other co-accused brutally assaulted and attempted to murder the victim by using hammer at a foothill between Iroisemba and Lamdeng when then victim was going for supplying water to his customers.

After brutally assaulting the victim, the accused abandoned the victim thinking that the victim was dead.

But later, the victim was evacuated to hospital for treatment.

In the course of investigation, the main accused Irom Rakesh surrendered before police on May 23 followed by the other three co-accused.

During interrogation, Irom Rakesh stated that in the year 2018 he was working as a sales executive of Tata Sky and also ran a school van.

After three/four days of reopening of schools this year, he was arrested by a team of Imphal West Women Police Station on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl who is daughter of the present victim and detained for 10 months in judicial custody under a POCSO case.

After coming out on bail, he started working as a private water supplier.

As the victim too worked as a private water supplier, Rakesh and the victim saw each other many times at Iroisemba Chingjin where they fill their water tanks.

On May 21, he stopped and slapped the victim two/three times before taking him toward the Lamdeng solid waste management plant road.

Rakesh stopped his vehicle around 200 meters from the road and pulled down the victim.

As Rakesh stated assaulting the victim, co-accused Irom Henery also arrived at the spot and he (Henery) held the victim tightly.

Then they thrashed the victim using wheel-nut wrench.

The duo then called Adhikarimayum Romio Sharma and Irom Dinachandra who arrived at the spot soon after.

The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO and the defence counsel, remanded main accused Irom Rakesh to judicial custody till June 13 while releasing the three co-accused persons on bail on execution of necessary PR bonds and surety.

Mention may be made that final hearing of the Special POSCO trial case against the main accused was held on the day of the incident (May 21) before the Fast Track Special Court 1 in connection with the sexual assault case of the victim's minor daughter in 2018, and the Court reserved its judgement for today.

As the main accused failed to appear before the Court, the Court fixed June 14 for announcement of judgement order.
