Imphal, February 01 2013:
Family members of the minor girl who was allegedly raped after being kidnapped on January 25 at Thoubal district have strongly refuted the claim of the accused and his family that it was just a case of elopement.
During a spot inquiry conducted by a team of Manipur State Commission for Women in the presence of a media team at the residence of the victim today, the family members said that after the incident, parents of the accused filed a report to the police on 27th January asserting that it was just a case of elopement with mutual consent between the alleged rapist and victim, and her father also knew about it.
But the truth was that the family members of the accused tried to force the victim girl to say that it was a case of elopement, they filed the counter case challenging the earlier FIR of kidnapping, seducing and raping a minor SC girl (under 366/376/342/34 of IPC and 3(1)(XII) of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act 1989) that was filed by victim's parents at Kakching police station.
The victim father said that the accused Yengkokpam Prameshwar (19) s/o Rameshwar of Charangpat Mayai Leikai along with other three kidnapped his minor daughter girl from near their residence on January 25 and later molested her.
"We have all the evidences and witnesses to support our claim", the father said.
He also said that they have already booked the travelling ticket for his daughter who is studying in class XII in a school at Shillong, Meghalaya.
So, there is no question of his role or any other family members' in the incident.
The counter case filed by Prameshwar's family members is completely baseless and it is just an attempt to cover up the case and mislead the people, the father asserted.
Fearing that the incident might tarnish victim's image in future, her family members tried to settle the issue internally by demanding Rs 2 lakh as compensation.
However, it took an ugly look when Prameshwar's father filed the counter case and refused to give the compensation, the family members of the victim told the inquiry team.
