Imphal, October 31 2021:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has observed the 37th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the 146th birth anniversary of the first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Congress Bhavan, here, today.
At the observance, a team led by former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh paid floral tributes to the photos of the two leaders and pledged for inclusive development and unity of the country.
The observance was also attended by CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC president N Loken, working president K Meghachandra, former MP Th Meinya, MLAs and others.
Responding to media queries on the recent pre poll violence that took place at certain Assembly Constituencies, CWC leader O Ibobi stated that the Congress opposes the use of violence for any misunderstanding or to settle a dispute.
He also appealed to all to shun violence of any form.
Saying that people have the right to exercise their adult franchise freely, he said that there is no place for forceful governance in a democratic country.
On the price hike of essential commodities, he said that the edible oil which used to cost only Rs 100 per bottle is now sold at Rs 200 and the price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 in the State.
Saying that price hike is a threat to the very survival of the poor, Ibobi said that deceiving the people by distributing a cylinder or two will not do any good in the long run.
If the current Government indeed cares for the people, then it should make sure the LPG cylinder is sold at around Rs 500/600 under a certain policy, he reasoned.
