NDFB-R threatens to withdraw ceasefire agreement

Tezpur, October 31 2014 : The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Ranjan Daimary faction) in Assam has threatened to withdraw their ceasefire agreement with the central government after the arrest of the outfit's chief D R Nabla.

"Despite all odds, the NDFB(R) has been working hard for peace and resolution of the conflict since its declaration of unilateral ceasefire on August 1, 2011," the militant outfit's information and publicity secretary B Naijab said in an email.

"As a result of prolonged negotiation between the Government of India and NDFB, D R Nabla, president of NDFB was released on bail.

After several rounds of discussions, NDFB has entered into formal ceasefire with the Government of India on 29th November, 2013," the email said.

"Although, the General Election and the formation of a new government at Delhi slowed down the pace of peace process, NDFB has submitted its Memorandum to the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India on September 27 of this year through the government appointed interlocutor P C Haldar to start the political dialogue", Naijab stated.

"The arrest of D R Nabla on September 29 last, a day after the submission of Memorandum and subsequent rejection of his bail plea by the TADA Court on October 21 despite submission of affidavit by the state government is not only surprising but also unprecedented, discriminatory and insulting," he said.
