Imphal, October 31 2012: The State Cabinet has decided to book a senior officer of the Power Department under the Manipur Public Servant Personnel Liability Act for approving payment of family pension to work-charge employees of the department without the knowledge of the Finance Department or the Cabinet.

This was decided during a Cabinet meeting today which was chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi.

The Cabinet decided that the officer would be booked under the Act if his explanation is not convincing after serving him a show cause notice, a source said.

The Cabinet further decided that an order be issued by the Department of Personnel to prevent the recurrences of such blunders by officers concerned.

The Cabinet also resolved that a countersign of Executive Director/concerned DCs be made mandatory while issuing cheque under MGNREGS for the smooth implementation of the scheme.

It further decided that no officers below the rank of Junior MCS be appointed as BDOs.
